Remembering Benedict XVI

Evangelical analysis of Benedict and other Catholics often uses the word “disagreement” to describe theological differences. Important to remember that the problems with Catholic soteriology, ecclesiology, and other areas are more than “disagreements”. Much of Catholic theology is fundamental theological/Biblical error which so distorts Biblical teaching that much of Catholic theology can legitimately be called “false teaching”. Those Catholics who do appear to know Christ do so in spite of the Catholic church, not because of the Catholic church. Although I appreciate those Catholics who, so far, follow Biblical teaching on morals and ethics, let’s not let that obscure the theological error of the Catholic church and the resulting need for gospel witness to Catholics.

Perhaps a bit more specifically, among the theological errors of Rome are the Council of Trent, which canonized doctrines like faith plus works, and grace plus works, the authority of the Vulgate latin translation of the Bible vs. the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts, and a bunch more. Obviously God makes the call, but if the rule is one must trust in His work, trusting in your own, even in part, is not a good thing.
