....to Bible readings in public schools is that a large portion of teachers--probably a majority in Austin--do not believe or respect the Bible, and hence Bible lessons in class would become a mockery at worst, and at best really a repetition of what many/most students are already getting in Sunday School.

Really, I'm reminded of some "prayers" offered at my college graduation, which were too often simply a prayer of the "prayer" (a college professor from liberal arts) to herself, as well as an attempt to make herself look erudite by citing obscure academic works. Some of us would cheer at the notion of prayers or Bible reading in itself--and to be fair, the Word does not return void, no?--but on the flip side, I've seen enough twisting of the Scriptures to say that there might be problems.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
