Be very, very careful about who you choose as executor or power of attorney. My wife and I are dealing with a nasty situation involving her parents and her brother, who thankfully does not have POA, but is using what power he has as their current landlord to push them towards accepting as little care as he can get away with.
In our case, we failed to recognize and act on the signs that whenever it was a conflict between cost and care, cost always won in her brother's mind. Given that there are a lot of times when "time is of the essence" in care--you can't "catch up" with the failure to administer certain therapies--it's having some nasty effects.
