It strikes me as well that as lovely as Canada is, making it a state (or several states) would be a death knell for conservative politics in the United States. Canadians are simply a fair amount more liberal than most of us south of the border.

So Trump's statements were not just offensive to Canadians, but asinine. The U.S. can impact Canada far better by hopefully being a good example that Canadians will want to emulate, not by expansion.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
