Actually, it was Kevin who asked, not me, but thanks for the reply. When I was a kid, there was a T shirt that said, Minnesota, Land of the 10,000 Johnsons (actually 76,000). As I got older, I realized there were also many Millers in MN. MN is where I grew up and I think both Kevin and Dan are there too. As far as I know, I am not related to either of them. My great grandmother was a Johnson though. My Miller name is from the German "Mueller" while most of the MN Millers are Scandinavian. I am a full Swede on Mom's side so, yah, no, yah youbetcha.

I was just scanning the thread a bit and seeing lots of posts I overlooked before.
It’s interesting to me how I write one article in defense of David French—an article with a focus a specific accusation—and once in a great while post something he authored (do a search, there have been very few as a percentage, and a long time ago—because he writes for NYT now, and people without a subscription would not be able read it), and this earns the observation that Aaron and SI “love all things French.”
I’m not torn up about that, but the facts do not bear that out. It’s just characteristic of our times that we do so much “sloppy binary.” What I mean is that we so often don’t see any nuance at all. Everybody’s got to be 100% this or 100% the opposite. So either I have nothing good say about French or I have to love absolutely everything about him.
But when is the real world really like that? I mean, it’s easy to think that way about politicians we don’t know, pastors we don’t know personally, authors we haven’t met, etc., etc. But what real human do you know who is “all or nothing” like that about everything? … about anything?
So, I recommend an exercise. I’m recommending to myself as much as anyone: When reading someone’s views online and starting to categorize them (100% this or 100% the opposite) what if we pause and ask: What if this person is a real human? What if we had coffee together or were neighbors or chess opponents or hunted together a few times?
People are just not all-this or all-that. Hardly ever. Might as well hear what their actual views are and why they think so.
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

It is good when people ask clarifying questions in order to understand where we are coming from. This helps us to learn from each other and better understand where the other person is coming from.
