We can defend our beliefs without demonizing others

“One of the first steps in bridging differences is striving to understand rather than rush to judgment. Remember James 1:19, which encourages us to be ‘quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.’” - The Baptist Paper

I loved this article. It was both encouraging and convicting. I have tried to apply this, but know I come short. I liked this quote:

Understanding doesn’t mean we have to agree with every point of view, but it does mean acknowledging the sincerity and humanity in others’ perspectives.

It kind of reminds me of this quote from country singer Chris Ledoux in the introduction to the song "This Cowboy's Hat" where he says,

Well there's always been groups of people that could never see eye to eye... An' I always thought if they'd get the chance to sit down and talk face to face they might realize they got a lot in common...

As Christians we definitely have a lot in common.
