Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod President Calls for Excommunicating White Nationalists

“LCMS President Matthew Harrison said he was ‘shocked to learn recently that a few members of LCMS congregations have been propagating radical and unchristian “alt-right” views via Twitter and other social media.’” - CLeaders

Discussion

I'm not a great expert on the LCMS, but from my experience hither and yon in my own circles, I see a fair number of people who are quite "out there" in their political and religious beliefs. So if Harrison is indeed shocked, I would say--with a gentle smile--"brother, I think you need to get out more." I would be very pleasantly surprised if the LCMS did not have its "out there" population.

But that noted, I think he's got a good point, and with a degree of refining, I think it's something that "our circles" ought to consider as well. If one's religious or political views veer into things that are clearly racist (or egregiously sinful otherwise), then yes, that is a cause for church discipline.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
