The reputation of the Gospel Coalition seems to worsen by the day.

Didn’t Mahaney write a book on humility? Why the arrogance then to not publicly distance himself from all things that would publicly harm the gospel?

1 Kings 8:60 - so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is no other.

Ed—how does this worsen the reputation of TGC? Not sure I understand what you mean.

I don’t understand the rush with Tulian? I have been seeking to keep up to date on reading the articles related to justification and sanctification, the many linked here at SI. I understand the seriousness of the debate. But why the rush from August?

The article says they rushed him off blogging there. That’s what seems reactionary., and that is what I meant (disenchanting a former supporter who is a big name). Is there something about him (T) that is off base? Trying to make sense of Todd’s comment.

Please read this statement from TGC before jumping to conclusions. They claim they informed Tchividjian of their decision to have him move off the site immediately. He claims he heard through a third party. Both could be true.

I think these recent developments are incredibly interesting from a historical perspective. I can think vaguely of a lot of parallels between TGC and early fundamentalism. Replace “The Fundamentals” with “Gospel Centrism” and you have many of the same internal conflicts of early fundamentalism and TGC. The “center bounded set” idea is running into the limitations of itself. I think people are getting personally frustrated because they don’t know where the borders are, and when they find them, it’s a suprise.

It is a pity that the energy is focused at the moment on who said/did what and when rather than on the doctrinal/pastoral issues at stake.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
