NewSolution... school choice

I know just how to end this “crime wave”: let everybody keep their school-funding taxes and spend them on the educational option of their choice.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

NewDon't say that

around any teacher’s unions. You’d be lucky to walk away with all your fingers and toes. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php] http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sick003.gif

There is a big push for http://www.scohio.org/ school choice in Ohio , and Gov. Kasich is very supportive, but of course, http://www.chron.com/news/article/Ohio-public-school-officials-oppose-v…] public school officials hate the idea .

I’d like to see the http://www.cato.org/pubs/briefs/bp-023.html privatization of education . No more DoE or NEA. Let parents keep their money and send their kids wherever they want.

NewPoverty?

If everyone just kept their taxes, what would happen to the children of those in poverty, who would not receive back enough money to pay for privatized education?

NewScholarships

First, the poor seldom pay any taxes, usually because they don’t own property, and when they receive a ‘tax refund’, it is, in essence, a welfare bonus check.

I believe, though, that our country values the idea of a quality education for all, and I have no doubts that there would be scholarships for the children of poor families, with some accountability as well, which we currently do not have.

In the old days, charities would open schools for them.

But my idea is more of a voucher type solution. In the end, the public schools would still be funded by everybody’s taxes, but at least those not using the system would recover some of their tax so they are not paying so much for what they have no use for.
But because the tax code is so redistributionist, the ultimate reality would still be be people who earn enough to be taxed will be paying for most of the education of those who are not earning enough to be taxed.
