Why has the press been so focused on white evangelicals?

This article should help explain why many evangelical Christians voted for Donald Trump. It’s not as mysterious or inconsistent as many seem to want to believe.

You could provide many valid responses to this question, and the author does so. But the best answer to my mind may be simply framed as follows:
“Because none of the others may be safely vilified.”
