The Main Point of the Christian Doctrine of Sin: We Are All “Damaged Goods”
I think Olson makes a lot of sense. I’ve said and thought the same thing for a while now.
Everybody is born broken and destroyed by sin. To be practical, this is why I’ve never thought it really mattered whether somebody was “born gay” or not. People are born with all sorts of weaknesses for particular sins. None of them are excusable, and it simply proves we’re all sinners in need of redemption. Basically, it doesn’t matter if you were “born gay” or not. You’re broken and destroyed by sin, and your sin proves you need Christ. Period.

I’m a 69 year old pastor who serves as an elder in a church of millenials. I was preaching on Psalm 51 and stated that we are what we are because we were “born that way”. There was a subdued chuckle through the congregation in reaction to my accidental cultural reference to Lady Gaga.

….is that more and more on the fringes of evangelicalism, the very phrase “damaged goods” is becoming almost an expletive….our “therapeutic nonjudgmental” age seems to be trying to excise the notion of sin and being damaged thereby out of our vocabulary.
But that said, if Romans 3:23 is true, then we are all damaged goods.
