Pew: The religious composition of the 115th Congress

“The share of U.S. adults who describe themselves as Christians has been declining for decades, but the U.S. Congress is about as Christian today as it was in the early 1960s, according to a new analysis by Pew Research Center.”

Call me cynical, but what they’re really measuring is how in fashion it is for elected officials to claim Christianity as their religion. I wonder if it correlates with actual faith at all. Probably weakly at best.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

Aaron, point well taken, but given that we fall for it every election, might not be that bad of a picture of the citizenry, no?

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

It has always been that way. I saw a similar chart about the founding fathers. They all claimed Christianity too such as George Washington who almost never darkened the doors of a church. They bought their pews though because it was important for their image.

At least our new president is a Christian. He should be a good influence on the Congress, no?
