Nevada Allows, Colorado Denies Christian School Vouchers

“School voucher programs, in which parents use public funds to educate their children at private schools, are on a roller coaster this summer.”

Discussion

……”he who pays the piper calls the tune.” Now, granted, government wants to call the tune whether or not the piper is paid out of tax revenues or borrowing by government bonds, but we ought to be very careful about taking subsidies from the government for this reason.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

This plan [the voucher plan we propose] would relieve no one of the burden of taxation to pay for schooling. It would simply give parents a wider choice as to the form in which their children get the schooling that the community has obligated itself to provide. The plan would also not affect the present standards imposed on private schools in order for attendance at them to satisfy the compulsory attendance laws.

Voucher plans are fine, but I prefer tax credits which can eliminate any government funds going to private schools. Parents just pay the tuition and then get a credit on their tax return. Sadly, there are always those who will oppose giving parents control over where their tax dollars go, especially if there is any chance that it will hit public schools and their bloated administrative costs in the pocketbook.
