Jack Schaap drops appeal: “The complexity of our justice system is beyond my confidence to believe there is a realistic remedy.”
What’s complex? Do the crime–do the time. Just be glad you’re not under Old Testament Law.

Given the propensity of some women to start “relationships” with prisoners—apparently the more repulsive the better—I would not be surprised if Schaap already had a dozen new girlfriends.
And yeah, call me weird, but it strikes me that he ought to be able to figure out that what he did deserves prison time, if not worse as Ron notes, and quit whining about a relatively minor sentence for destroying the innocence of a young lady.

Is this an actual news story or something from the Onion?
Sheesh.
"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells
Seriously, guys and gals, I ‘m going to go over to the church in a little while and spend some time in prayer. During this time I will pray for Jack Schapp and then I will write him a short letter of encouragement. Let’s see how this goes.
….so it’s probably not as far from The Onion as Sun-Times employees would like….I grew up an hour from the Loop and we always mocked it in favor of the Tribune way back. So feel free to mock me for liking the Tribune, which apparently isn’t lighting the Pulitzer fires recently, either.
On a more serious note, it strikes me that nobody saw it as odd that Schaap was counseling the young lady out of state, and they willingly drove her to the rendezvous point without asking what advantage was to be conferred by doing so. Most never saw it as suspicious……it is as if none of them knew a real counselor that they could ask about this practice.

Whenever this subject comes up, I pray for Jack Schaap as well. I pray that he will see his sins, confess and repent, and trust Jesus Christ to save his soul.

I think the best encouragement that a person could give Jack is to repent of his sin, seek the forgiveness of the victim and family, and own up to his actions. I have not read one piece of evidence that indicates that this man is remorseful or repentant. I have read that he didn’t think what he did was technically illegal. I’ve read comments that imply that he thinks his sentence was too harsh. I’ve read that he somehow thinks that all the hours he spent leading one of “largest churches in America” made him vulnerable to this sort of action. I’ve read that those within FBC Hammond think he was the target of a satanic attack due to his aggressive soul-winning activities. I’ve saw the IFB machinery (CLA and the likes) kick in when this first hit the news-stands (I pastored a church in Hammond at the time). What I have not seen from Schaap is a heart of repentance.
Maybe I should write a letter of “encouragement” to him as well.
If I do, it will include something along the lines of Matthew 23:1-15, “Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. 4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7 and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. …12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. 13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in. 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.”

Sounds like he dropped it because it got too expensive. Is he still married, I suppose he is and that his appeals have eaten into whatever his wife had to live on, not that they were barely scraping by before.
Wrote a real letter to JACK ALLEN SCHAAP to the address provided. It was returned this morning, “Incorrect PO Box Number.”
