What We Learn from Nude Reality TV

Supporters argue that stripped-down dating is a way to meet others in complete openness, removing all the complexities of modern life that get in the way (like clothes). “In an era where one-third of married couples meet online and a person can hide behind old, blurry profile pictures, the idea of seeing a potential match’s true self all at once has a certain appeal: once the physical stuff is out of the way, you can actually get to know someone”

Discussion

What can we learn? People will ignore the necessity of plot, character development, and the like in entertainment as long as they can have implied nudity.

Yay.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

I just recently had a Christian naturist (nudist) join the forum where I am administrator. I thought he joined just to post a link to his blog, but he’s been coming back and interacting with me. Here is his reasoning why naturism is acceptable.

1. Adam and Eve were naked in the presence of God without shame, because there was no sin in their lives. Ge 2:25: And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
After they sinned, they tried to hide their sin by using fig leafs. Ge:3:7: And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons
Their physical nakedness wasn’t the problem, their sin was.

2. The Lord brought a temporary solution: Animal sacrifice Ge:3:21: Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
In the whole of the Old Testament animal sacrifice were in place
But let’s look at Heb:10:4: - For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

3. A permanent solution for spiritual nakedness (sin) came in Christ Jesus
Ro 13:14: But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Ga 3:27: For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Eph 4:24: And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Be clothed with Christ, believe in Him, live for Him.

4. Question.
a. If you are naked in your bath and you die, where will you go? If you are born again, to be with the Lord, because you are clothed in Christ Jesus
b. Does the Lord and or the Holy Spirit leave you every time you undress? Of cause not. The Lord doesn’t have a problem with your nakedness, it is your sin. But Jesus has died on the cross to cleanse us from that.
Practice naturism with a clear conscience, but in Faith.

There are a LOT of holes in that reasoning. I told him I’d like a conversation about the Bible verses regarding modesty. He said, “Regarding modesty - just a short remark, will look into it in detail. Modesty should be part of your everyday life amongst people that don’t accept nudism/naturism as lifestyle. Where you are amongst people with the same values as yourself that is n/a. Thinking of Paul’s view in Scripture regarding eating meat or not, and considering one day more important than another or not.” I then said, “To me, that is like saying, ‘Honesty should be a part of your life amongst people that don’t accept deceit as a lifestyle. Where you are amongst people with the same values as yourself, you don’t need honesty.’ Wouldn’t virtues such as modesty, honesty, patience, and others be applicable no matter who you are with?” I’ll have to wait and see how he responds to that.

He was cursed for looking on his father’s nakedness.

True. It just amazes me that there is reality T.V. based on it. Our culture is normalizing pornography.

Just another TV show I’ll be blessed by not watching.

"Some things are of that nature as to make one's fancy chuckle, while his heart doth ache." John Bunyan

Regarding Kevin’s comments, it strikes me that while Christ may have taken away the penalty for our sin, He removes the possibility of sin only at glorification when we die and join Him in Heaven, no? Hence that level of “openness”, shall we say, would only be appropriate once we are wearing the white robes He provides for us in Heaven and will not take them off.

Never mind the reality that clothes do not just shield us from shame, but also from the sun, miscellaneous creepy-crawlies, power tools, and other hazards of everyday life. So the nudist is either an extreme risk-taker, or someone who really has a lot of time on their hands, or both. Whatever category (ies) he fits, this risk or abuse of the body and neglect of God’s command to work for one’s bread do not seem congruent with the character born of Biblical faith.

Plus, as a person who wears clothes when not bathing or alone with my wife, I can interact with just about anyone for the purpose of evangelism or discipleship during almost all of my waking hours because my secrets are hidden. Can the naturist say that?
