How to Stop Constantly Chasing After More

Observations:
- Having a list is not sinful. We have a list
- We save in 2 HSAs for future medical expenses
- We have a savings account for future auto expenses
- We have various accounts to save towards the day we cannot work (I’m not sure if it will be “comfortable” but we don’t want to run out!) (For reference consider John Piper’s Should I Invest for Retirement?)
- Do any of these things make me “happy”? In my mind that’s the wrong question. My joy is in Christ. Joy and happiness sometimes overlap but are distinct concepts. I had joy when I was very sick for 2+ months last year. I wasn’t happy about being sick.
I grew up in a home of limited means. Thankfully I had a father who explained to me why my “richer” neighborhood friends were always at my house. He said that there’s a difference between being broke and being poor. Broke is a financial condition. Poor is a state of mind.
"Some things are of that nature as to make one's fancy chuckle, while his heart doth ache." John Bunyan
