Christian heavy metal star Tim Lambesis arrested over alleged murder-for-hire plot

The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is desperately sick: who can know it?

So, I suppose they probably won’t be releasing a Christmas Cantata this year?

I think I stumbled upon his band once when I felt to good about everything and was googling around the web for things to be mad about. :)

Doug, he hasn’t been convicted yet, so I think the cantata is still a possibility. :D

[Jim]

Has anyone on S/I heard of the guy? Band?

I’m clueless

I have their cds and my oldest son and I are fans of their music. We actually have tickets to a show in June where they were slated to open for Killswitch Engage. We are bigger KSE fans than AILD fans but still enjoy their music. It is a great teaching moment and reminder that we do not look to men—they will always fail us. We have been wondering if they will find someone to fill in for Tim at the concert—we shall see.

They might find a new lead singer and do that. I would buy it.

Since editing this and leaving it blank would make it look like I said something worse than I actually did, I’ll just say I’m leaving off the sarcasm since this is a serious and sad situation.

Matthew, I’m taking all of your comments on this thread as if you are being serious. In so doing, my first inclination was to ask how old your son is who you are taking to this concert, but I realized that’s really none of my business, so don’t answer that. I think it would disturb me if I knew the answer anyway.

But, I will ask how you square being a fan of this group (and the people in the group) and enjoy their music with, well, for starters a verse such as Phil. 4:8?

Brenda,

My son is 15 and it squares. Not untrue. Not dishonest. Not unjust. Not impure. Not unlovely. Not a bad report… I don’t have to agree with everything everyone does in a group in order to appreciate their art. KSE is known for their positive and uplifting lyrics along with some really sweet instrumental wailing! We can all enjoy artwork and things created by unsaved people and praise God for the gifts He has given. There are a few members of these bands that claim to be Christians, but that is not a litmus test for me to enjoy something. Let me ask you this. Do you enjoy anything in this life that is created or endorsed by an unsaved person? Unsaved people have enough common grace to create some pretty fantastic things. If you don’t prefer metal music that is fine with me—you are not wrong in that. There is good music in all genres and our family enjoys it to the glory of God.

I don’t know you, Brenda, so I cannot really address your choices in entertainment. I would wonder if everything you enjoy squares with Phil 4:8 for starters…

Matthew

Matthew,

Not being familiar with the group or music mentioned in the OP and realizing that you are very familiar with them, I was simply wondering what is it about the group and their music that is lovely, pure, virtuous, of good report, etc.? I’m asking this from an objective standpoint, not a subjective “I like it” or “I don’t like it” mentality. It’s a question I often ask myself about various things.

I got a little chuckle about you asking me what I enjoy for entertainment. I rarely go to any concerts (unless it’s for my kids at school). I don’t watch TV much unless you count the news and state legislative programming. I don’t go to art museums (yeah, I’m a barbarian). I don’t go to movies even — I can think of more productive ways for me to spend my time and money). I went to a drama performance this year (only because my child was in it) but that’s probably the first drama I’ve been to in over 10 years. Oh, and the books I read are of the non-fiction genre. I’m quite boring, so if you thought turning the question on me would be a “gotcha” moment, I’m sorry to disappoint. So, what’s my entertainment? Maybe SharperIron. : )

My initial question was sincere. I truly want to know what about the group and music fits with the verse. I understand you believe it is not untrue, unjust, etc. But, I’m asking how is it true, just, etc.

Brenda,

I understand your question and I am not trying to be argumentative. I think we just view art differently and that is understandable. I would only rephrase my previous comment as that I believe their music is truthful, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of a good report. I am not going to waste my time trying to “prove” any of this—you can listen and find out for yourself if you really are wanting to know. It appears that the lead singer of AILD has shown himself to be a pretender and that is always disappointing. I have also had two pastors in my life who were pretenders on certain levels as well.

What is lovely to me may or may not be lovely to you—that’s OK with me. These are gifted singers and musicians and we enjoy their art to the glory of God. We also enjoy music from the Wilds, Sovereign Grace Music, and Soundforth. We have a very eclectic variety of music in our lives but I would consider all of it to square with Phil 4:8.
