Psalm 73
I feel like David read my mind and just wrote down what was there. As a single woman, vs. 25-26 are especially meaningful, but the whole psalm is very precious to me. So much so that it is my car tag - PSALM73.

Psalm 2 because it displays the absolute sovereignty of God over the nations!
[Jim Peet] Psalm 2 because it displays the absolute sovereignty of God over the nations!I had Psalm 2 on my original list (and a number of others), but I was afraid there might be a limit on number of options. It’s a good one. I love it in Handel’s Messiah. It is among my favorites.
My favorite is Psalm 86 — it has a great blend of God’s attributes and His concern for human frailty. Psalm 86:11 puts our earthly pilgrimage very concisely:
Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

My great comfort when I sin is that I am given repentance that God accepts. My favorite verse is Psalm 51:17.

I really attached to this psalm when i was in a very serious car accident as a teen. I almost died and could’ve had permanent brain and physical damage. But i didn’t. I have never before or since realized the constant life-sustaining presence/intervention of God.

I have been a church musician for 30 years. I have been teaching an expository series at church on the Psalms for 18 months: tonight I will try to finish Psalm 23.
So far, one of my favorite passages is Psalm 22:22-31 - David, standing in the midst of the congregation, lifting his voice in praise to the Messiah for his sacrificial suffering on Calvary, which will not occur for another 1,000 years.
And, of course, there is one other passage, that God used this summer to confirm His call for me to pursue a ministry as a pastor:
Psalms 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

After surgery, our pastor sat down in front of her and said, “Katie, this verse is especially for you.”
Psalms 57:7 “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.” (KJV)
She has been singing and giving praise to Him ever since. :)
You may think it’s corny. It still brings tears to my eyes…

As far as Psalm 22, that was on my original “longer list.” You are right about the Psalms being so rich.

Ps. 23 has become very precious to me over the last several months. I just finished a http://www.honoringhim.com/messages.htm sermon series on it and studying the text in depth gave a whole new appreciation. If I have God, I need nothing more! He gives the ultimate pleasure in life, security, protection, comfort, and purpose. David ends it in a beautiful way. It’s as if he’s saying, “All I see in my future is God’s loving kindness and His mercy. Yes, there will be dark valleys, but GOD will be there…and HE is enough!” Great men of God arrive here at some point. All else can be falling down around me, but as long as I have God, nothing else matters. David was there…Job was there…Paul was there…Lord, bring me to the point that I can say “The LORD is my shepherd…I don’t need anything other than that!”

I feel overwhelmed by the task. I have this verse posted over my computer in 4 colors to separate the thoughts and am blessed by it often.
Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning;

But I would have to say Psalm 121. When I was in the midst of a pretty bad life situation, all the Psalms were a great comfort to me. It encouraged me to know that David and the other writers could be in such deep despair, yet at the same time be totally confident that the Lord would deliver them. I did an exercise where I re-wrote the Psalms out putting my name in the place of the “you’s” (where appropriate, in other words - personalize them). I’ve encouraged others who are struggling to do the same. Amazing how your perspective changes when you do that.

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.…also 23, 119, 37, 139, 112, 121…I know snatches of so many of them, set to music. Spurgeon’s Treasury of David is my “trapped on a desert island” book choice, aside from the scriptures themselves. :)

My favorite Psalm has to be the the one I am currently studying, which often changes.
Recently, I was overwhelmed by the beautiful poetry and glorious picture of our Lord in Psalm 77
Then due to a situation in my church, Psalm 4 and very shortly thereafter Psalm 3 were great sources of comfort.
Personally, the penitential Psalms (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143) are a constant friend to me—I also add 25 and 103 here
I guess my favorite depends on the “season” of life and the mood I’m experiencing (Certainly a bit subjective). Praise the Lord the Psalms cover the wide spectrum of human emotions, and can apply to a myriad of life’s trials and joys.

That’s a tough question! I really love both Psalm 19 and Psalm 139. They’d be my top two at the moment. But I sure love 119… and 103 and… and…
Why 19: I like the global scope of it. The general revelation in creation and the special revelation in Scripture. Just covers so much ground. Powerful truth beautifully expressed.
Ps139… again, covers alot of ground and so beautifully. But God’s presence and attentiveness to us… these are realities I’ve found I need to constantly ponder, both for the comfort they bring and the discomfort they bring!
