Discussion

I am not a martial arts person. But, in light of SI discussions about Yoga, I thought I would bring this related but somewhat different subject up.

Personally, I see a difference in the culture in which things evolve and in the product. Higher mathmatics and even our numbers were greatly developed in the Arabic (Muslim) culture, for example. Dramatic plays were developed in the pagan Greek culture.

BTW, did you hear about the black belt karate expert who joined the military? First time he saluted, he almost knocked himself out!

I don’t see anything wrong with men learning skills for self-defense and self discipline. However, if you wish to avoid the eastern spiritual ideas inherent in many of these arts, why not try something like boxing or greco roman wrestling?
