Suspect in Norway bombing a "reported Christian fundamentalist"

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/24/world/europe/24oslo.html Death Toll Rises to 91 in Norway Attacks
The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man, whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 91 people dead.
The police said they did not know if the man, identified by the Norwegian media as Anders Behring Breivik, was part of a larger conspiracy. He is being questioned under the country’s terrorism laws, the police said, and is cooperating with the investigation of the attacks, the deadliest on Norwegian soil since World War II.
“We are not sure whether he was alone or had help,” a police official, Roger Andresen, said at a televised news conference. “What we know is that he is right-wing and a Christian fundamentalist.” So far Mr. Breivik has not been linked to any anti-jihadist groups, he said.
Once again the media just drops in a line to try and stir up an emotional response. It’s an old tactic that still works, unfortunately.
Of course we all know that the suspect is not really a fundamentalist!
But the NYTimes was direct quoting a police official

Sorry about that. I was responding to the first posted link which just throws the idea in without any official connection. As for him not being a fundamentalist, well, now we have to argue about labels again :-)
He had a police uniform.
Sure, the police deny him. So do Christians.
There is sufficient evidence to assume is he was neither police nor Christian. But don’t expect the media to point out that.

I’ll be interested to see how they have established this link. It’s one think to mention being a religious zealot but Christian fundamentalist is pretty specific language.
Maybe the Cru is onto something!

If he is convicted for the crimes under Norwegian law, Mr. Breivik would face a maximum sentence of 21 years, according to the police, meaning that unless he were found unfit for release for some reason he would be freed well before he turned 60. Norway abolished capital punishment in 1905.
Can you imagine what it must be like at the HQ of the Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami (the Helpers of the Global Jihad) on finding out that it was some white, blue-eyed infidel dude who did this http://www.examiner.com/civil-rights-in-jersey-city/media-prints-cia-lie-stating-muslim-group-claimed-responsibility-for-olso-attack#ixzz1Sw9hA9ca] and not one of their own as first reported ?
Like, phew!
Like, phew!
How did we get from this quote in the first news article:
to this quote in another paper:
Even police confessed to not knowing much about the suspect, but details trickled out about him all day: He had ties to a right-leaning political party, he posted on Christian fundamentalist websites, and he rented a farm where police found 9,000-11,000 pounds (4,000-5,000 kilograms) of fertilizer.
to this quote in another paper:
“We are not sure whether he was alone or had help,” a police official, Roger Andresen, said at a televised news conference. “What we know is that he is right-wing and a Christian fundamentalist.”Surely they have more evidence than “he posted on Christian fundamental websites” if they are going to declare he is a fundamental Christian.
Why is it that my voice always seems to be loudest when I am saying the dumbest things?
Let’s not forget Europe is largely oblivious to American Fundamentalism. Their idea of Fundamentalism conjures up, well, precisely the type of thing that just (sadly) happened. (Although, the gap between these two senses is shrinking even in America, no?)
Well, watch this video allegedly made by the killer himself and decide for yourselves how “Christian Fundamentalist” he is and see if any of your Fundy buddies might fit right in:

Thanks for the link. That was quite a video this killer made! What would yone call it: a call to arms? A motivational documentary?
He seems mostly focused on preserving European Civilization from Islamic dominance. Apparently there is a group of new self-appointed Knight Templars formed in 2002. They call themselves the Infidel Resistance. The film invites people to become Justiciar Knights in their own country. There are almost no references to Christianity directly, but many manly images of Crusaders and mini-biographies of famous generals who defeated Islamic armies. Slogans are along the lines of “Banish Islam from Europe” and “Never Surrender to Cultural Marxism” which means political correctness and diversity. It does not really have a racist component. The group seems to regard Nazis as evil, but Communists are worse. It upholds South Korea and Japan as model modern societies because of their cultural purity.
The scariest part is a kind of hunter’s permit. It says Marxist Hunter: Multi-cultural Traitor Hunter’s Permit. Then it says, Tagging not required. No limit. 1999-2083.
The organization plans to win the Civil War for Europe by 2083. Phase I will last about 30years.
A few kooks or a movement? Who knows, but it may well be attractive to young men fearing the loss of their civilization. The slaughter in Norway seems to be a kind of opening salvo.
Fundamentalist Christian? Not in any sense we would use the word. The examples of great men are all Roman Catholic.

Who here knows exactly what’s meant by Norwegian Christian fundamentalist? Should such terms be tossed about without definition? Is he a terrorist because he’s Christian or a Christian who happens to be a terrorist or, if he’s a terrorist, can he really be a Christian at all?
[Wayne Wilson] Thanks for the link. That was quite a video this killer made! What would yone call it: a call to arms? A motivational documentary?Thx, Wayne. Personally, I think the guy’s got mental problems in addition to his murderous, anti-Christian streak. I mean, he totally miscalculated the effects of his mission—how many more (probably fewer) Norwegians would now be won over to his cause!

Not that the media and political reaction has been overly clever either, resolving not to http://news.yahoo.com/norway-suspect-deems-killings-atrocious-needed-01… “keep all this wealth to ourselves” as a result of the rampage but to open the door to greater jihadist immigration.
Perhaps they need to check out a couple of clips that might underlie what they term “Islamophobia”:
- http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=e38_1311456981] Claiming “Allahu Akhbar” whether for or against the government may not be a good way to experience multiculturalism.
- http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1a5_1311501413] Sharia law treatment of thieves might not be the most acceptable or suitable for European “monocultures.”
- http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ce2_1311328714] The brutal execution of female murderers in this GRAPHIC video may offend some of their Liberal sensitivities.
That’s before they think about how noble and humanitarian the culture of Secular Humanism is, based on those regimes built on that religion over the last century.
