The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man, whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 91 people dead.
The police said they did not know if the man, identified by the Norwegian media as Anders Behring Breivik, was part of a larger conspiracy. He is being questioned under the country’s terrorism laws, the police said, and is cooperating with the investigation of the attacks, the deadliest on Norwegian soil since World War II.
“We are not sure whether he was alone or had help,” a police official, Roger Andresen, said at a televised news conference. “What we know is that he is right-wing and a Christian fundamentalist.” So far Mr. Breivik has not been linked to any anti-jihadist groups, he said.
Once again the media just drops in a line to try and stir up an emotional response. It’s an old tactic that still works, unfortunately.
Of course we all know that the suspect is not really a fundamentalist!

There is sufficient evidence to assume is he was neither police nor Christian. But don’t expect the media to point out that.

I’ll be interested to see how they have established this link. It’s one think to mention being a religious zealot but Christian fundamentalist is pretty specific language.

If he is convicted for the crimes under Norwegian law, Mr. Breivik would face a maximum sentence of 21 years, according to the police, meaning that unless he were found unfit for release for some reason he would be freed well before he turned 60. Norway abolished capital punishment in 1905.

Let’s not forget Europe is largely oblivious to American Fundamentalism. Their idea of Fundamentalism conjures up, well, precisely the type of thing that just (sadly) happened. (Although, the gap between these two senses is shrinking even in America, no?)

The organization plans to win the Civil War for Europe by 2083. Phase I will last about 30years.

Who here knows exactly what’s meant by Norwegian Christian fundamentalist? Should such terms be tossed about without definition? Is he a terrorist because he’s Christian or a Christian who happens to be a terrorist or, if he’s a terrorist, can he really be a Christian at all?
