The owner of a small restaurant outside Pittsburgh is banning children under the age of 6, saying they regularly disrupted other customers’ meals.

The move has touched a nerve and led to television and radio interviews from as far away as New Zealand and Australia for Mike Vuick, owner of McDain’s Restaurant and Golf Center in Monroeville, Pa.

It has also sparked strong opinions among those who applaud his decision and those against it. Mr. Vuick said he had received 2,000 emails, running 11-to-1 in favor of his decision.
And on http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/07/13/restaurant-owner-says-community-re… Fox News:
There’s “nothing wrong with babies,” Vuick said, “but the fact is you can’t control their volume.” He said all that screaming and crying disturbs many of his customers.

Vuick added that children might be the center of their parents’ universe, as it should be. But he says they’re not the center of everyone else’s universe too.
Does it offend you that a restaurant bans young children, or are you planning on calling in a reservation ASAP!

I have to say that more than once I’ve had a nice dinner with the hubby become less-than-pleasant because folks at nearby tables would not control their children. I’ve had a Hot Wheels car get tangled in my hair and saw a dirty diaper changed right in the middle of my meal. I’m totally with the restaurant owner on this one.

Discussion

If people come and eat there and he is successful. Who cares? Only those people who want to tell us how run our own business.

Makes sense to me.

There are restaurants, and then there are restaurants. When our kids were tiny, we stuck to fast food chains and diners. As they got older and developed better manners, we expanded our options.

Reminds me of the theater my wife and I go to.

They have senior, adult, child, and infant prices. Adult is 10, Child and senior are 7.5, but infant is 10. Yes, you read that right, you have to pay full price for an infant, but not a child. Not only that, no under 7 can be admitted (with/without adult) to a pg13 or r after 7pm…there are some other stipulations, like a parent has to accompany anyone under 17 to any movie after 7 for any rating.

Needless to say, it is very adult friendly. And it is super quiet once the movie starts.
