Here’s an excerpt…
1. The data source. Both surveys were conducted by expert pollsters YouGov, using very large, nationally representative samples and consistent methodology. ….
2. The data story. Some have suggested our participants have exaggerated their attendance…. But if that is occurring, it is radically more pronounced now than in 2018, requiring a rapid transformation of the perception of Christianity whereby young adults are now more likely to falsely claim they attend church weekly, while attending far less frequently, if at all…..
3. The bigger picture. For over a year prior to the survey’s release, we heard numerous reports of increased church engagement – on university campuses, in chaplaincies, and local parishes.
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
But that noted, if it's not, my approach doesn't change. I'll still pray for people to come to Christ there, and pray that those who are investigating Christ come to know Him for real....the numbers don't change that much, though I rejoice to think that a society rapidly becoming Godless may be repenting.
And to be honest, I must confess a bit of skepticism about how much it means when someone comes into an Anglican church--though at the same time, I must confess that a typical Anglican congregant gets to ignore more Scripture than a fundagelical Baptist like myself hears in a typical service. So I will let God sort them out!
