Images of the Image of God: Thoughts on ‘The Chosen’ Series
“Everyone knows reading the Harry Potter saga is infinitely better than watching the films. So also the Gospels of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a medium of communication, the show falls short of its goal….TV is not more influential than the written or spoken word.” - DBTS Blog

This article misses the biggest issue with the series (probably missing because the author may have not watched any part of the series). It adlibs large amounts of imagery, messaging and character that are never revealed in Scripture. It makes broad assumptions and fills them in. In that sense it borders on blasphemy in that is ascribes things to Jesus that Scripture does not ascribe to Jesus. A view with a lack of maturity or understanding would view these things as "from God", when in reality it may be in complete contradiction to God. In addition, the creators assume that the Holy Spirit will work through this medium, when in reality the Holy Spirit only works through its revelation of Special Revelation found in the Word of God. A mish mash of texts and commentary that sometimes resembles what is found in Scripture cannot be construed as Special Revelation and therefore cannot be truly used by the Holy Spirit. The truths that are sprinkled could point someone in a direction, but I struggle with the Holy Spirit using a "truth" created by Hollywood. Lastly, the creators of the show are constantly promoting supernatural activities being performed by God on the set of the show, as a result of the show. They use it to validate how God is supernaturally using this show for His kingdom. Much of it I have questioned as hype to promote the show, than of any real substance. I struggle with God having a gap of 2,000 until Hollywood comes around to finally give Him the platform that He needed. Instead Scripture is clear that God only needs the Word of God and the church to spread his Word. We should question the need of other recently created mediums.
