Should I Get a Tattoo?
“There is only one clear reference to tattoos in Scripture:.. (Leviticus 19:28)….an Old Testament precept, and many Christians argue that it is no longer applicable today. This claim deserves some careful consideration.” - Ref21

While I basically agree, the “be ye separate” argument is a tough one. That can be applied in a lot of areas and no one would apply it the same way in our culture. As a matter of principle, believers should err on the side of “not sending a message” that may be contrary to Christianity.
….to tattoos are pretty simple. First of all, most of the ones I’ve seen are really something akin to vandalism on the person’s skin. OK, with our “Bodies by Wal-Mart”, maybe not as much vandalism as in a slimmer era, but vandalism nonetheless. I try to avoid vandalizing my body with obesity and other scars, so why should I do so with tattoos?
The second big reason I’ve never considered a tattoo is the simple question of whether I want anyone but my wife handling portions of my skin for long periods of time. Obviously this objection is tempered by what portion of the body is being tattooed, but there is the reality that too many lingering touches can lead to other problems.
And then you’ve got the cost, periodic infections and poisonings, and the like. Plus, since too many tattoo artists have failed to use fresh needles, blood banks really don’t like them., and I’m an 18 gallon donor.
I don’t know that we can really say “don’t do as the pagans do”, since most of us wouldn’t really know what a pagan tattoo looks like. But that noted, there are plenty of reasons I’m not keen on them.

Exactly! I had a heart problem a few years back and was faced with possibly having to have surgery. This was the first thing that popped into my head. What was a further struggle for me was that I would have to be under. So touching while uncouncious was just too much. I decided to combine the Keto, paleo, Dash and raw diets together to solve my heart problems. Besides I think the doctor was a Trump MAGA supporter (that one is for you Joe :) ).
When my kids talked about tattoos and ear piercings (boys), I knew they were adults and had to assume adult responsibilities (paying rent, et cetera).
They found tattoos and ear piercings to be lower in priority!
Well, my kids have done henna, which lasts about a week, on their ankles, and it was a choice where I didn’t understand the motivation for, it wasn’t too bad. Overall, my thought is that at a certain point, a line is crossed where a person is working “too hard to attract attention”, which is the same objection we might have to excessive make-up, excessively fashionable or revealing clothes, excessive attention paid to hair care, and the like. Somehow I think that the ideal self-presentation ought to be a bit like a “sleeper” car of the 1960s….not much to look at from the outside, but mechanically beautiful and powerful on the inside. Station wagon with a 409 with three deuces, more or less.
I’ll think about those Tyson tats…..not.
One other thought is that one of the best ways to get a tatooed person to open up is to ask him about them. In a world with temporary jobs, temporary relationships, temporary homes, and the like, it’s a permanent thing. I get that, even if I don’t like the aesthetics or process much.
