Business partner alleges affair with Falwell's wife with Jr.'s approval
A local Lynchburg reporter just tweeted this:
Jerry Falwell Jr. just confirmed to me he has submitted his resignation to Liberty’s board.

“It’s a relief,” he said. “The quote that keeps going through my mind this morning is Martin Luther Ling Jr: ‘free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I’m free at last.”

Falwell needs to understand that “Letter from a Miami brothel” won’t carry quite the same cachet as “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, I dare say. He’s not exactly facing down Bull Connor’s dogs and water cannons to establish liberty for most of the nation, to put it mildly.

There are multitudinous pictures of Falwell Jr holding what appears to be alcoholic drinks in his hand. I guess it could be soda or tea, but the style of glass etc is like alcohol. I don’t get how this guy lasted this long.
The man who was having the relationship with his wife and him is in many of these photos. Together with this man Falwell bought properties in Miami (and also several in Lynchburg, VA that had already caused controversy), including a “cheap beach motel” that had a liquor store on the first floor… which he paid $4.6 million for. Where did he get the money from?
How in the world was this guy the president of a fundamentalist Christian school?
$10.5 million? Write the check today and move on. Money well spent to be rid of this situation.
Mr. Granda, the “pool boy” said he received pictures of a student at the Falwells’ farm in a state of undress. I am going to dare say that alcohol, if involved at all, is the least of the issues Mr. Falwell is dealing with. Note here that everything we can verify from publicly available information—the business partnership, at least one phone call, etc..—is checking out. Time for Liberty to listen to this lady.

Falwell got ahead of this with his lie about the affair being his wife’s issue alone and having nothing to do with him. She came out and vouched for his story. Yet the young man has him on tape speaking about his wife’s relationship with him? By getting his lie out, Falwell put school in position where to fire him for cause would have been risky, since it isn’t clear that he played a part in the affair (though he did). While paying him a severance might be their only option at this time, why is he being kept as a consultant? The whole ministry seems concerned about money and not morality.
Scripture about Falwell: “It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans …” (1 Cor 5:1).
Scripture about Liberty: “And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you,” (1 Cor 5:2).

“His contract entitles him to a $10.5 million severance package, Falwell, 58, told The Washington Post late Tuesday - in part because he is departing from the university without being formally accused of or admitting to wrongdoing.
Falwell said he will receive $2.5 million over 24 months, equivalent to two years salary. He agreed to not work for a competing university during that time. After two years, he will receive $8 million in retirement. Falwell said he signed a 20-page contract in July 2019 that outlined the terms.”
WHAT A LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Now another person has stepped forward claiming Mrs. Falwell was sexually predatory towards him. Buckle your seatbelts and pull your barf bag from the pocket in front of you, this is going to get uglier.

Anyone know Becki Falwell’s background?
Also do J & B have children?
.met when she was 13, married when Falwell Jr. was in law school. I’d assume she grew up in a typical SBC church in North Carolina (her childhood home).
Probably way too early to start figuring out the “why” of what went on with this tragedy, but hopefully, per Jonathan Charles’ comment, the school investigates what was known by deans/executives/the board, when it was known, and what, if anything, people did about the matter. Next question is probably “if little or nothing was done, what factors were involved?”
And yes, I hope that the Falwells, whatever their sins actually are, do get help and guidance that will help them understand why they did what they did, and as they recover, maybe they can share some of that with others.

before you get too sanctimonious against the Falwells you might want to check out the kind of things going on among the members of your local church, or the one down the street.
One church my wife and I attended (about 600 members) a group of single/divorced women was overheard by my lovely bride talking about how good in bed the various single/divorced men were. More than one single man told me in private they had been contacted by single women in the church for hook-ups.
So, the Falwell story may not be as uncommon as you might think.
[Mark_Smith]It is disgusting to hear that such immorality was taking place in that church. I hope those single men took steps to handle those wicked solicitations properly.before you get too sanctimonious against the Falwells you might want to check out the kind of things going on among the members of your local church, or the one down the street.

Mark, no argument that this kind of thing pops up where it is least expected—I’ll leave it at that for now. Those who seem to be spiritually quite robust fall into this, and my church has had a fairly thriving ministry to men who have been tempted sexually—mostly by pornography, but there are other things of which I’m aware.
I would also dare suggest that if the pastors can start hearing about this, they might be able to have a thriving ministry to those who have fallen into this trap as they figure out the “why” of why so many people who need the comfort of a spouse do not have this, and why they are willing to take the shortcuts.
