New study: "following the #MeToo movement, men are significantly more reluctant to interact with their female colleagues"
“According to the data, 27% of men avoid one-on-one meetings with female coworkers, 21% of men said they would be reluctant to hire women for a job that would require close interaction (such as business travel), and 19% of men would be reluctant to hire an attractive woman.” - Washington Examiner
Notice it’s a max of 27% who say they’re avoiding women, so we would infer that 73% + of men are not. I’ve personally been following a Pence Rule variation for decades now, so I guess I’m part of that—at least avoiding meetings where others are not within earshot—but it would be really interesting to see precisely who is changing their approach and why.
I know that personally, I am not helpless if a colleague wears high heels or makeup, so it strikes me that there really ought to be a wide region of acceptable behavior that, apart from false accusations, ought to be acceptable to both sexes. Along the same lines, the play-acting in my company’s harassment training was mostly cases where anyone with a pulse and a conscience would recognize the behavior as obnoxious.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
This has been my experience with harassment training also. I keep thinking “To whom is all this not obvious? … and to these few, is a video going to help them?” Maybe it will. Worth a try I suppose.
