Arizona Republicans Advance Bill to Reduce Abortions By Funding Crisis Pregnancy Centers

“The Arizona legislature voted Wednesday to advance a bill that would provide $7.5 million to crisis pregnancy centers over the next three years as part of an effort to reduce abortions in the state.” - National Review

Discussion

Since most crisis pregnancy centers are Christian/Catholic in nature, this gives the pro-abortion side a clear talking point. Bad idea. It would be sufficient to simply cut funding for Planned Parenthood and explain that since those “non abortion services” are indeed keeping abortion clinics open, the state has no business funding them with taxes taken from those who are pro-life.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

Tax funding for Christian enterprises is not a good idea. However, it might be helpful to balance the scales of public perception. If it is acceptable to fund Abortion Clinics with taxes, why is not acceptable to fund agencies that support women whose choice is to keep her baby? A “woman’s right to choose” should be equally supported either way, if fairness and consistency mean anything.
