Sexual abuse policy approved for Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC) affiliation

The policy “would disallow new or continued affiliation by a church whose senior pastor has been convicted of sexual abuse of a child. The policy also prohibits new or continued affiliation by a church that is found to be “indifferent in their response to child sexual abuse.” - BPNews

Encouraging to see progress on this.

When will we see independent Baptist state/regional/national organizations act?

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

My take is that they will need to flesh out precisely what they mean by “indifference”—it’s a good term, but my experience is that if you give too much leeway in defining it, it will become meaningless. Good place to start; hiring a convicted sex offender as youth pastor counts. Or, for that matter, any pastor or ministry director who works with the opposite sex closely.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
