If I’m not mistaken, Lifeway sells a ton of VBS materials every year. Call me crazy, but I wonder if that has anything to do with this.
I would have thought that the appropriate metric for success at VBS would be “growth in Christ” and/or “people coming to Christ and being integrated into the Church”, but what do I know? Let’s be honest; if you get kids together with music and games and hop them up on sugar for a week, most of them will have fond memories of that completely apart from whether they learned anything.
Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
I have great memories of VBS, and I ended up saved and a Baptist pastor.
Several years ago, a college staff worker told me he had gotten saved about 50 years before at an area Baptist church’s VBS. He is a very active church member.
The stories are innumerable. And, VBS teaches about the greatest Book in the world.
So, yes, VBS is worth it.

Like any other outreach, it can be done well or done poorly, depending on the resources put into it, the curriculum used, etc.
