Get Ready for the Great Reset (Part 5)

In order to properly evaluate the proposed Great Reset in the light of Biblical prophecy, we must first make certain that we understand the world from the vantage point of God Himself.

We must recognize, first, that nothing in this world is out of control. The Lord God of heaven and Earth, at this very moment, “works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Eph. 1:11). Speaking specifically of the Second Person of the Godhead, the Apostle Paul instructs us that “He is before all things, and in Him all things consist” (Col. 1:17). According to the author of Hebrews, He is actually “upholding all things by the word of His power” (Heb. 1:3, NKJV).

Psalm 103:19 states:

The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
And His kingdom rules over all.

As one of my theology professors, Dr. Rolland McCune would say it, this means that “every speck of cosmic dust” in the universe is under His sovereign control. Dr. McCune would remind us that this verse speaks of the universal kingdom of God—of which the coming theocratic, millennial kingdom of prophecy will be one major element.

The thinking Christian will quickly realize not only that God is sovereign, but that along with that sovereignty He is omniscient. His omniscience certainly extends to the eternal future, as well as the present and the past. This is not the pitiful false god of open theism. Rather, the true God of the Bible knows “the end from the beginning” (Isa. 46:10), and has carefully revealed certain elements of His prophetic plans—the portions that He deems it necessary for us to know—through His inspired prophets and apostles. It more than behooves us, then, to understand the paradigm that His “prophetic Word” (2 Pet. 1:19) provides us as to how we are to understand that future, and the preliminary times in which we live.

But before we develop that theme, let us also remember that the best news of all for each of us personally is this: If you and I are believers in Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the whole world, then God is working through every circumstance in this world “for good” (Rom. 8:28)—for you and for me!

Nothing is behind schedule. Everything is happening right on time, from God’s perspective—and He alone will bring about everything He has ever predicted in His own holy Word. Global warming will never burn up the planet (Gen. 8:22), natural disasters will not bring an end to civilization and no madman can ever destroy the world on a whim. God has already determined and described exactly how history will end, and He will accomplish those things that He has resolved to bring about on His timetable alone.

How then does God view something like the Great Reset?

We find the answer in Psalm 2:4:

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision.

The sophisticated forms of babble offered by promoters of the Reset are ultimately neither ingenious nor incredibly impressive. Surely, these global leaders are serious about the claims which they make. But, set as they are against the eternal Word of God, their extravagance and ostentation only provoke righteous defiance within the believer, along with conjecture as to how long the Reset will take to achieve its own self-destruction.

More than 80 years ago in Germany, Adolf Hitler went far beyond calling for a Reset. His anticipation of a 1000-year Reich stirred the masses, and he set Europe on fire with the power of his rhetoric. Yet God humiliated this demonic madman in short order—meanwhile turning his heinous intentions and actions around toward the re-establishment of the modern Jewish nation in Israel.

Now is not the time for believers to fear (2 Tim. 1:7). As I have been proclaiming to congregations for the past six months, this is the church’s time to shine. To use an athletic analogy, this is the time to leave it all on the field.

But we can endure the most and shine the brightest only when we aspire, like “the sons of Issachar” to have “understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do” (1 Chron. 12:32).

In Matthew 16:3, Jesus exhorted His followers to become those who could “discern the signs of the times.”

In the next installment, we will look at precisely how we are to go about doing that, Biblically, as we move toward the end of the church age—and specifically how we are to categorize the calls for a Great Reset.

May God give us wisdom and boldness commensurate with the seriousness—and wickedness—of the days in which we live.
