Anyone Interested in a Free Book?

The LargentsSome readers may not be aware that we have book review opportunities at SharperIron, complete with free review copies of the books. You may peruse the current book list here.

Not long ago, we also threatened and cajoled a pastor in Omaha into taking on the role of Book Reviews Editor. His name is Ken Largent, and, being a lover of books, he didn’t really take that much convincing.

A Few Words from Ken

My wife and I were saved in 1978 shortly after our marriage. In the fall of 1979 I enrolled at Midwestern Baptist College (we lived in the Detroit area), and in 1980 we moved to Hammond where I attended Hyles-Anderson (Publisher’s Note: We recommend not drawing any hasty conclusions on the basis of schools people have attended.). I graduated in 1984 and came to Omaha to pastor. I’ve been here ever since. In 1990 I started working on my Master of Ministry degree at Northland, graduating in 1993. My interaction with Doug McLachlan can only be described as life-changing. I’m currently working on my thesis as I pursue a masters degree in history at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. We have three grown children. One graduated from Pensacola Christian College, and our youngest graduated from Maranatha Baptist Bible College last May. All are active in a local church. I’m 51.

As far as my reading, I try to maintain a balance. I do love history, especially American history. I’m currently reading Brands’s biography of Andrew Jackson. I’m also reading Piper’s The Supremacy of God in Preaching and Peter Hicks’s The Message of Evil and Suffering. I enjoy reading authors who can stimulate my mind or my heart.

I enjoy reading SharperIron. I think that it endorses the idea of a fundamentalist approach to the Bible while seeking to avoid some of the legalism, dictatorship, and absolute lunacy that are found in some branches of Fundamentalism. I particularly like reading Kevin Bauder. I try to keep up with the directions that Christianity is moving, and SI has been a good source.

So let’s welcome Ken aboard by swamping his in box with requests for review copies of books and then new reviews for SI readers. If you write a qualifying review, the book is yours to keep!
