Good-bye for now!

On Sunday morning, April 24, 2016, God in His kind but inscrutable providences ripped a sizable hole in my life and the lives of many whom I love best in this life. The Bookmans’ dear friend and ministry-life-time soul-mate, Tom Zempel, went charging off of this mortal coil.

“Ed Dobson, a prominent West Michigan pastor who guided a Grand Rapids mega church for two decades, has passed away, according to a Grand Rapids Press obituary publishing Tuesday, Dec. 29. Dobson had been dealing with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, for the past 15 years.”

Pastor Brong served in the ministry for over 50 years and served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church Russell, IA and First Baptist Church Monroe, IA. Later he served as State Representative and Camp Director of the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

During an outing that morning, their church young people were swimming and began struggling with a strong current. Joshua went to save the young people but sadly he and one of the young people drowned in the process.
