“1. Make sure your own heart is celebrating the resurrection…. 2. Don’t forget that some believers around the world risk their lives by telling this story….4. Recognize that your job is not to impress with your oratory skills; it’s to tell the story of a borrowed cross and an empty tomb.” - Chuck Lawless
Jonathan Edwards Studies is at a Dead End
“That so many Edwards scholars think he is wrong about these things is an understatement. More accurately, Edwards is regarded as ‘exotic’ and ‘unhinged’ on these matters. Here are fourteen individual statements—derived from both contemporary and historic readings of Edwards…that demonstrate just how bizarre Edwards is understood to be” - London Lyceum
Don’t Divorce the Church: A Response to James K. A. Smith
“I don’t grant the premise that the [Christian Reformed Church in North America] has fundamentally changed its approach either to confessionality in general or to human sexuality in particular. And I object to Smith’s uncharitably dismissive attitude of sisters and brothers in Christ in the present CRC as anti-intellectual.” - TGC
Proclaiming the Resurrection needs to be continuous
“The Resurrection of Jesus is tragically under-taught, under-preached, and as a result, under-appreciated ….Apart from Easter weekend or funeral messages, it often becomes a footnote rather than the focal point of modern preaching.” - Baptist Press
Study: Americans are swapping organized religion for personal truth
“People are breaking free not with bolt cutters but with deeply personal acts of spiritual rebellion, rejecting the rationalized, systematized, and institutionalized religious constructs of modernity in favor of more dynamic, diverse, and syncretic expressions.” - CPost
What I Love About Easter
I remember my mother once saying—quoting her father—that Easter Sunday is a lot like heaven. Perhaps it is the closest thing to it that we will ever experience here upon the Earth.
I cannot prove that statement Biblically, but I have attempted to meditate upon it through the years, and I think there is much truth in it.
John MacArthur Returns to Public Ministry: ‘The Rumors of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated’
“The pastor has been dealing with a number of ongoing health issues, including complications from a heart valve replacement he had in the summer of 2024. These health problems have kept him from the pulpit and public ministry for the better part of a year.” - C.Leaders
Deacon Selection Process: Interview Questions to Ask Before Ordination
“While much focus is placed on pastoral leadership, deacons are no less essential to the church’s mission. No single passage outlines the exact duties of a deacon, but several themes emerge from Scripture, particularly in Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3.” - Church Answers
The Story Behind Handel’s Messiah: Charles King’s book ‘Every Valley’
“In Every Valley, Charles King, a professor at Georgetown University, describes this monumental performance in great detail. But his story begins many years earlier, charting Handel’s rise to celebrity status in one of the most polarized ages of British history.” - Plough
I’ve Been Preaching for a Long Time: Can I Improve?
“Disciple a Younger Preacher. When you help a younger preacher with his preaching, you will inevitably improve your own preaching. You will find yourself critiquing how he outlined his sermon or how he was soft in his conclusion and realize that you do the same thing!” - PastorCenter.org
Resisting Slow Decay: Choosing Effort Over Ease
Of course there will be hard places. What of it? To choose ease rather than effort is to choose slow decay. (Isobel Kuhn, missionary to China and Thailand, 1901–1957)
Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1)
How Many of Calvinism's 5 Points Do You Embrace?
How many points of Calvinism do you embrace?
I added a place for 4 and 1/2 points because many people have told me that is where they stand. Some 5 Pointers will admit that Christ’s death is sufficient for the sins of all mankind but not intended for all mankind. Other 5 pointers seem to take a more thrift-oriented approach — no more grace than absolutely needed, no extravagance (sufficient only for the elect and no more). So where do you stand?
When We Enter the Present Heaven, Will We Have Physical Forms as We Await Resurrection?
“A fundamental article of the Christian faith is that the resurrected Christ now dwells in Heaven. We are told that His resurrected body on Earth was physical and that this same, physical Jesus ascended to Heaven…. It seems indisputable, then, to say that there is at least one physical body in the present Heaven.” - Randy Alcorn
Three Biblical Marks of Healthy Financial Cooperation
“The means and methods of financial cooperation between churches are not the purview of accountants and finance committees only. Rather, how financial support is given and received within the kingdom of God on earth is a theological and pastoral question.” - 9 Marks

“Through the partnership, students at Midwestern Seminary and Spurgeon College can earn credits toward Cedarville’s Master of Business Administration, further preparing students for administrative ministry roles and marketplace leadership.” - Baptist Press
Resurrection Déjà Vu: Try though they may, biblical doubters can’t beat the truth.
“…though Pagel’s ideas are presented as the latest in critical scholarship, they’re the same tired claims that have been trotted out since the nineteenth century, if not earlier. Even worse, the author fails to mention that the arguments against biblical accuracy and the historicity of Jesus have been repudiated time and again, by multiple generations of Biblical scholars.” - Breakpoint

Was Jesus Crucified with Nails?
“The Bible doesn’t say Jesus was nailed to a cross. Telling the story of Christ’s death, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John simply say that Roman soldiers crucified him. They don’t say how.” - CToday
Through Christ’s ‘Suffering, We Have Redemption’—Trump Sparks Debate With Holy Week Presidential Message
“While Trump’s post has gained attention from all sides, many comments were in agreement with the president and offered prayers for him and his family….One person argued, ‘Christians are getting played so hard by this administration and they don’t even know it.’” - C.Leaders
Rebuke Your Disciples!
As Easter draws near, the Christian calendar presents us with a sequence of world-altering events—Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and later Pentecost. Each day tells a part of the greatest story ever told, and it begins with Palm Sunday: the moment Jesus Christ enters Jerusalem, hailed as a king, setting into motion the fulfillment of divine promises.
In Luke 19:28–44, we find the account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. But to fully grasp what’s happening, we need to step back and understand the broader picture.

Culture Changes like an Avalanche: A Review of ‘Why Religion Went Obsolete’ by Christian Smith
“A vibe shift is underway…. It’s easy to get excited about some of the cultural shifts. But it’s important to appreciate how far we’ve strayed from anything resembling traditional faith or values. It’ll take a vast shift to reverse these decades-old trends, which now have deep roots in contemporary culture.” - TGC

On Sound Speech, Part 1
Do you have trouble with your mouth?
I do. And I always have. Since birth.
Really.
There are few things worse than saying something that you regret, whether immediately or eventually.
How should we then speak?
I’d like to take a few posts to meditate on that.
And I’d like to begin by considering someone who speaks, and who speaks well.
The Bible begins with a speech act:
“If you have the truth on your side, you don’t have to be afraid of questions.”
“…close to half of the class said that their favorite part was working through the questions, and several of them noted they especially appreciated hearing their classmate’s perspectives on some of these issues.” - P&D

What’s a Christian to do with Culture?
“Os Guinness calls this a ‘civilizational moment,’ where society isn’t just at a critical crossroads in twenty-first century America. It’s instead at a critical crossroads for Western civilization itself.” - Breakpoint
