Huntsman is apparently disheartened that his contributions to the LDS church funded things that he objected to, and he’s seizing on the fact that the LDS church has commercial holdings to demand that his contributions be refunded. I’ve got to admit that I had similar thoughts when I left a church that was “wannabe KJVO”, but reality is that the courts do not generally intervene in cases where church theology is at issue. Not much to be concerned about IMO—it’s more of a publicity stunt than anything else.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

My initial reaction to the story was, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You gave it to an organization that you knew was very affluent, and oligarchical, and not very accountable—and that the handful at the top were going to do as they chose with it.’

On the other hand, there are claims and promises about how the money is used? I don’t know what their “Elders’ ” rhetoric is like. But maybe there is a real case for fraud.

I don’t like the precedent though. Once you give to a church that should be the end of it. There’s no warranty or refund period.
