“The 80-plus member [Executive Committee], which acts on behalf of the Southern Baptist Convention when it is not in session, followed the recommendation of its officers and severed the evangelical denomination’s relationship with the church for ‘clear evidence of the church’s intentional discriminatory acts.’” RNS

NewSay what?

The church is actually named after a former pastor, but the thing that strikes me is that having a mostly caucasian church with the name “Raleigh White Baptist Church” is just incredibly poor optics, especially in the south. For that matter, even if the name didn’t suggest something racially offensive, why on earth name the whole church after a former pastor?

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
