NewMental Reservation

Years ago I had a conversation with a Roman Catholic priest. In talking with a family at a funeral, I heard him tell them that purgatory didn’t exist. When I asked him how he could say that he explained that there was a RCC teaching called “mental reservation (equivocation)” that allowed him avoid conflict and provide comfort by telling people something that wasn’t true as long as he “held to the truth in his heart”. His Biblical example was the mothers in Israel at the birth of Moses and Rahab.

And Francis is a Jesuit, so that fits.

Lord willing, some serious minded Catholics will be driven to the scriptures by their current pope’s inclusivism and be saved.
