How many hours a day do you watch TV (for recreation) on the average? (best guess) This includes DVDs/movies.
Most of us don’t run around with meters, so we are in the realm of guesswork when it comes to our viewing habits.
According to the New York Times, the average American watches more than 5 hours of TV per day!
Whether we watch on a television, computer, or cell phone doesn’t matter in this survey. They all count.
There is nothing shameful, IMO, with watching a lot of TV, especially if we are watching documentaries, how-to shows, etc. And most of us enjoy parking our stressed-out carcass on the couch and tubing out now and then and escaping to an imagined scenario.
When I told my wife that my New Year’s resolution was to watch more TV, she didn’t like it. But she couldn’t object — we were averaging 2 or maybe 3 hours a week at the time. Now we are close to 5 hours per week. Some weeks more, most weeks less. I may even up it more this year, who knows?
Since I am not a sport’s fan, that affects my personal viewing habits.
For example, I try to watch the Reuter’s 15 minute news option (via my roku via the internet) most every day. I used to almost always exclusively read the news online.
Our survey will exempt time watching short clips here and there on the computer, or watching instructional videos required for schooling.
And we know that averaging can be rough. You might do all your viewing in one or two days, so it may take a bit of math.
So what about you? What is your best guess?
And you can comment about the kinds of things you do watch or how you watch (cable, roku, antenna, dvds, netflix, etc.). You can even make recommendations for those of us seeking to increase our viewing!

I just needed it. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Personally, when I come from work I always have the pleasure of watching TV on some series or movies with my husband because in this way we can relax and spend time together nicely. We usually get to watch adventure tvshows because we really like this genre and it makes us both feel good, and besides, we both prefer comedies. Usually, the last time we watch our movies only on a site and I will attach the site above in case someone here needs new sites where they can find anything they want. We really like that it has no ads and that it is easy to search for anything.
I would guess an hour or a little less. We enjoy classic movies and Poirot but we get up early so, when we do watch something, we often can’t make it very long before falling asleep.
