Does the 'Cyrus prophecy' help explain evangelical support for Donald Trump?

Pretty muddled reasoning there. Though God used Cyrus, He can and does use anyone He chooses. It doesn’t work as an argument to nominate and elect a man like Trump vs. alternatives because if God can use the Trumps of the world, He can also use the Obamas, Clintons, Pelosis, etc. of the world. Useability/having a role in God’s plan is not grounds for putting the stamp of approval on anyone. The devil himself is “used” in God’s plan.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

The difference is, I doubt a Godly Israelite would vote for Cyrus to be the new king of Israel …

The variant I heard of this—from an older woman in church, no less—included an affirmation that to not support Trump/Cyrus would be, by implication, to oppose God and His plans. :( I hope I simply misunderstood her…
