Roe v. Wade

Norma McCorvey, the woman behind the 1973 Supreme Court ruling Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion, died Saturday. She was 69 years old. McCorvey died of heart failure at an assisted-living home in Katy, Texas, according to journalist Joshua Prager. Prager is writing a book about Roe v. Wade and told USA TODAY he has spent hundreds of hours with McCorvey. McCorvey, who went by the pseudonym Jane Roe, challenged the constitutionality of abortion laws in Texas in 1971. At the time, it was illegal for women to have abortions unless their lives were at risk.
