The council’s top-heavy institutional structure has been pared down to four “convening tables” with two issue emphases: promoting peace and ending mass incarceration.

And that, my friends, is the real problem. When the National Council of Churches doesn’t do anything to do with religion - outside of quasi-social justice type political movements - it’s hard to build anything on that a thousand other organizations don”t already do, and don’t have the baggage of ‘religion’ with their name.
