"Porkophobia....a faux-principle of faith"

The Muslim author writes that the Islamic prohibition on pork consumption, while not a significant tenet of the Muslim faith, has become an obsession, especially among Muslims who live in Christian countries where pork is commonplace. The obsession has reached the point where they don’t want to see a pig on TV or have their children play with a toy pig in a toy farm. This “porkophobia” becomes a rallying point around which their society identifies itself.

This article has amazing parallels to American fundamentalist culture. I can’t think of any single thing that is directly analogous off the top of my head, but there are lots of things that fundamentalists obsess over in ways that go light years beyond the emphasis, if any, placed on them in Scripture.

No wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel will prevail against the LORD. Proverbs 21:30

Darren, I would put music in that category. While I do not think instrumental music is amoral, I do think fundamentalists have blown the issue way out of proportion.

Why is it that my voice always seems to be loudest when I am saying the dumbest things?
