what is the "rest" in Hebrews 4?

Been reading Hebrews, and this puzzles me. What is the “rest” being talked about in chapter 4?
“There remains therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God… . Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest.”
Is it:
1) each weekly sabbath?
2) salvation?
3) heaven?
4) eternal life?
5) something else?
How are vss. 12-13 then connected to that topic? about the Word being sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing even …
?

I think it’s best taken within the context of the exodus/wilderness wanderings story - From Hebrews 3 - the parallel is made between Israel suffering in the desert looking toward going across the Jordan, and Christians suffering yet looking forward to… I’d say - heaven.
options for vs 12-13
1) Could be Jesus - word of God - following the theme of Jesus better leader than Moses - leading us out of wilderness better than Moses. (fits in the context of following verses)
2) Could be again, pointing to we have more of God’s word than the Decalogue, and that’s better than in the exodus?
either option is tricky.

I feel that the correct answer is much more simple than that. God made everything and then rested. Man was “In” that rest. He walked and talked with God because there was no sin. Man did not work to feed, clothe or shelter himself.
But with the fall came the curse and man lives by the sweat of his brow and dies worn out.
Why could this not be speaking of a return to the Garden of Eden ? And or the state of man before the fall ?
