Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary MOOC -- Hermeneutics

I enrolled in a MOOC class in Hermeneutics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary today. It is entirely free except for the required books which I purchased new at Amazon.com for $45. This is the same course he teaches at the seminary and for additional work and fees, credit could be received.

Some knowledgeable friends think that the course will be very good. It is being taught by Dr. Danny Akins, the President of the seminary.

The course material will be available starting Feb. 1 and students work at their own pace.

I have no ties to the seminary – since saved we have always been in independent Baptist Churches and I taught computer science at BJU for 8 years. We now live in central Florida and we have found too many of the independent Baptist churches in our area have been influenced by Jack Hyles – with shallow preaching (throw out a verse or two and then preach whatever you want giving your cliche opinions) and extra-Biblical doctrines (like Baptist successionism and the belief in the preservation of the KJV to the extent that the KJV is effectively inspired). One pastor told us that “God says to use the KJV”. That’s when we decided to leave.
