We are recently searching for a new home church (sad circumstances) and it has been great getting fed a little on this site. Anyway, I heard that the book from “Stuffed Undies Like” ;) has featured some interviews by church members within certain big Independent Baptist churches and the interviews are anonymous. I was recently accused by some friends from my old church of contributing to this book anonymously?!! While I never did any such thing, I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this?

Good luck. I doubt anonymous interviews are likely to be much help!

Suggest:

  • Ask Christian friends whom you know!
  • Visit visit visit
  • Look at the official documents
  • Take your time before joining
  • Understand the culture and make sure you are a fit:
    • If you occasionally attend movies disclose in a small group that you recently viewed [movie name]. Look for reaction
    • Have wife wear slacks to the evening service. Look for reaction
  • Ask to see the financial statements (last year’s income / expense statement; balance sheet, and current year’s budget (if they do not disclose you have to wonder why!)
  • Ask tough questions when the pastor visits like “explain Romans 8:29-30”.

I think when looking for a new church, it can get paralyzing.

Also, sometimes, you get into a church and can tell right away that there are major things you disagree with (even if it’s in the right denomination)

and you’re sitting there for an hour with your skin crawling :) (Like last week) but we’re visiting a new one tomorrow and I’m kind of excited, I have

an old acquaintance that goes there.

Also, I was accused by a former friend at my old church of being an anonymous contributor to Darrell’s book because supposedly there are anonymous

interviews in there, talk bad about the pastor behind his back and they assumed that one of them was me. Not cool. I just wondered if anyone had heard

of this.

If one describes a dysfunctional church or pastor, and one is accused of describing a particular church or pastor… isn’t that sort of damning in and of itself?
