Radiometric Dating - A Possible Explanation for the Acceleration of Radioactive Decay Rates during the Flood
Forum category
I discovered several articles from creation websites that may help explain how acceleration of radioactive decay rates occurred during the Flood from a young earth perspective.
First, I’ll give you Wikipedia’s definition of radiometric dating:
Wikipedia’s “Radiometric Dating” article states “Radiometric dating (often called radioactive dating) is a technique used to date materials, usually based on a comparison between the observed abundance of a naturally occurring radioactive isotope and its decay products, using known decay rates.”
Radioactive decay rates are assumed to be stable and yield millions of years for dating rocks, which evolutionists use as evidence against God’s creation of the heavens and the earth about 6,000 years ago.
Several creation ministries picked up information from an experiment performed in Rome that showed the accelerated decay of Thorium-228 by a factor of 10,000 as a result of ultrasonic cavitation:
Answers in Genesis: “News to Note, July 18, 2009”:

Institute for Creation Research: “Radioactive Decay Rates Not Stable” by Brian Thomas:
http://www.icr.org/article/4816/
The original article was from the CERN Courier: “Ultrasonic cavitation of water speeds up thorium decay”:

Here is an article on cavitation from Creation Ministries International:”Beware the bubbles burst: Increased knowledge about cavitation highlights the destructive power of fast-flowing water” by David Catchpoole:

Whether this is a possible cause of accelerated nuclear decay in other radioactive elements is open for experiment and analysis as far as I know.
The Scriptures state:
“In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened (Genesis 7:11).
As a result, cavitation during the Flood may have accelerated the radioactive decay rates of radioactive elements. This could explain the millions of years of rock dating we have as evidence today.
For further information about radiometric dating see: “The way it really is: little-known facts about radiometric dating: Long-age geologists will not accept a radiometric date unless it matches their pre-existing expectations” by Tas Walker:

I am not an expert in this field, but the results of this one particular experiment show that acceleration of radioactive decay rates is possible.

Matt
