Finding a pastorate

Not sure if this is the place for this thread. It’s more of a “how” question than a “why” question. Moderators, feel free to move it to a more appropriate place as you deem best.

Looking for some suggestions on how some of you have gone about searching for a new pastorate. I have talked to my college alma mater as well as all of the other colleges and seminaries I can think of that are relatively close to me in doctrine and philosophy. I have contacted all of my pastoral friends and contacted all of the people they have suggested. I have posted and reviewed postings on a half dozen (all that I can find) pastoral/church search websites.

I understand it is often a long, slow process, and I am willing to wait patiently (at least semi-patiently ;) ) on the Lord. However, I want to do my due diligence along the way. Has anyone found other information outlets useful?

Discussion

Having friends in the ministry has been the biggest help for me. Knowing other men who know you and know a church that you would “fit in”. I have been at this church almost 3 years and it has been a wonderful time for us, if the Lord allows I will be here a long long time. A fellow pastor who knew me and was the interim here, and recommended me to the church and the church to me. I am always skeptical of pastor search websites because it seems that the church’s that use them don’t have much fellowship with others (have no prospects) or there is some reason why pastors are not sending their resumes to them (a bad history). This is not always the case, but often, it is.

Waiting is frustrating, but not near as frustrating pastoring a church against the Lord’s will. I’ll be praying for you Chip.
