Question: If you were writing a serious Christian nonfiction work, what publishing house would you choose to publish it? Is there a need for a publisher to service “Broader Fundamentalism?”

I just finished a stint with Examiner.com as a Religion and Society columnist. I just signed up with another called Associated Content.
When I worked for Gannett, 15 years ago, I received about $25 per column and maybe $100 for assignment articles.
Today, the same writer is LUCKY if he makes $2 off an average article and $10 off an exceptionally well-read and visited article.
However, think about the publisher. Maybe they only make .10 cents or so profit off each writer’s per piece work. But you have 12,000 writers publishing 80,000 articles a month, or tens of thousands per week, millions a year.
Now, I am changing the subject, slightly, sure if you want to publish books as a Fundamentalist, you need a good publisher, although self-publishing works, my mother has done it four times.
But , I suggesting that if you are in the publishing biz, JD, and are interested in providing Fundies with a place to write, maybe a Content Publishing website is something to think about, Ay?

SonnyCraig,
Thanks for the thoughts. Could you explain what you mean by content publishing site?

Who is your target audience? What is your subject matter? Who publishes similar books? “Serious Christian non-fiction” is a very broad category. You need to spend time studying what’s already out there. How is your book different and better from what has already been written? Is there a need for your book? You might want to consider self-publishing through CreateSpace (Amazon), but if you do you need to have the skill to produce a top quality product and be prepared to promote your book. If you have not published with a traditional publisher before I suggest you start with articles or short stories and work to get them published first. I have lots of free articles on my website that may help. http://debbrammer.com/writers-circle/writing-articles/ . I also recommend the Write to Publish Conference in Chicago which talks about writing for Christian publication on many levels. If you can’t go to the conference you can always order CD’s. It sounds like you need to study your craft and learn about submitting manuscripts, marketing, promotion and different publication options.
