Is Andy Stanley Ashamed of the Bible?
A few weeks ago I was engaged in a Facebook discussion with a man who was enamored with the teaching of Andy Stanley. This discussion led to my listening to and evaluating three of Andy’s more recent sermons — two of which the man picked for me as good examples of solid preaching by Andy. This led to the suggestion by another man in my church (a man who is about to be appointed as a fellow elder) that I should turn my critiques into a blog post for the benefit of others. The blog post is entitled Is Andy Stanley Ashamed of the Bible?, and I offer it here for your consideration. I apologize in advance for the length!

Good summary of the article was found right at the end when the author wrote:
I really do hope these brief critiques of Andy Stanley’s teaching have been helpful to the blog’s readers in highlighting not only the problems with his teaching but also of the many others who teach the same way. I also hope you can all see more clearly that the differences between men like Andy Stanley and those who advocate expository Bible teaching go much deeper than a mere matter of style. They are rooted, rather, in a different view of the authority and role of Scripture in one’s teaching ministry.
Yes, the article was long, but I found it valuable, not just for the critique of Andy Stanley, but for the reminder of the value of the scripture and the importance of making sure our preaching lines up with scripture. If I were teaching homiletics, I would make this required reading.
Thank you, Jerry for the kind and encouraging words! My blog partner, Jeff Johnson, said something similar when he encouraged me to post the article. He and I share the same burden on this issue.
