UFOs: How do you account for them?

Is God’s focus on the earth, or is the earth one of several or many foci? This is quite an interesting issue, so your comments are appreciated. You can address any or all of the following: (1) Do sane [and sober] people actually see UFO’s that are beyond naturalistic explanation (not military projects, cloud formations, asteroids, etc.). (2) If so, are these connected to the demonic? (3) Do you see a connection to the Nephilim of Genesis 6?

Some people suggest that aliens are actually highly evolved or mutated human beings from the future traveling back in time to our present.

Lots of potential fodder for discussion. My view is that people see them, that they are connected to the demonic, and that they are connected to the Nephilim.

Please freely comment if you have seen a UFO. I won’t think you are crazy; some people will, but we can stick our tongues out at them together! I have not seen one, but know of at least one missionary who has, as has President Jimmy Carter, Walter Cronkite, and a number of famous astronauts.

The discussion could be out of this world!

Discussion

Going to have to figure out someday how to make polls that allow multiple selections. Wanted to add the “must be a spacey guy” to my selection of “I don’t know what they’re really seeing.”

Went w/that option because I’m being particular about what the term UFO means… ‘unidentified’ being the key word. Lots of level headed folks have seen things neither they nor anyone else could identify with certain… and since what they saw was in the sky, ‘flying’ fits as well (though it’s a bit of an assumption… I mean it could be ‘hovering’ or ‘hurtling randomly’ or even ‘maintaining a static position relative to the surface of the earth’ etc. … ‘flying’ vaguely suggests self-propulsion is involved. I wouldn’t assume that.)

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

As an astronomy outreach professional (my duties aren’t just teaching and research, I run a planetarium and observatory too!), often people tell me about UFOs they have seen. Most of the time the issue is simply that they saw something they can’t explain but is explainable. For example, Venus, meteors, satellites, space station.

I also get calls and have conversations with people that GENUINELY believe they have seen LARGE UFOs (think V or Independence Day) hovering over our town, once even escorted by military jets. I tend to think these are from people with some kind of mental disability. I don’t mean they aren’t “sane”, but that there is something off mentally or biochemically with them in the brain. One of these people is a fellow professor!

A few people have told me of alien abductions . These stories are DETAILEDand quite frankly scary. I some times cut people off on the phone when they try to share these. I tend to think these are in 2 categories. One, people who have had violent crimes against them (rape, for example) and they have sublimated it to alien abduction. A few cases I think involve potential demonic interaction.

I have never heard of the Nephilim connection.

What I want to emphasize, and this surprised me, IS A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK THEY HAVE SEEN UFOs, not just weird lights, I mean large city-sized vessels, hovering over towns. It really surprised me.

For the record, I have never seen something that wasn’t explainable. I have seen the ISS many times…it is bright. Venus can trick you into thinking it is a bright light following you if you have been awake for 24 hours and are hopped up on Mountain Dew driving across the US (not that that has ever happened to me). I have seen aurorae, helicopters strangely hovering night after night over the same spot, military training illumination rounds, you name it. When I was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point I saw B2 stealth bombers many times…always at night. They are weird. You cannot hear them until they are well past you….

Mark,

You have led a truly interesting life. As much as we disagree on some issues, I think I would thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to sit down and share stories about our experiences.

Why is it that my voice always seems to be loudest when I am saying the dumbest things?

I see one of the choices is “sane people do not see UFOs, but always mistake natural or technological phenomenon for them.”

Speaking from talking to quite a few people, a surprising minority of reports cannot be dismissed as a mistake in what was seen…there is something else whether it is mental, drugs, or demonic (or time travelers from the future trying to help us out!)

I voted option one. Purely anecdotal but I have yet to meet a sober minded person who saw a “UFO” in the sense of alien spacecraft. Usually if someone sees something unidentified they don’t make the jump to “It must have been aliens.”

I think sane people are seeing things that can often be explained, but when the people below see UFO’s, I think it is time to consider that people are seeing something. Especially when they are astronauts in space.

I haven’t viewed it, but Chuck Missler has a video presentation on Aliens, Nephilim, and UFO’s (https://socioecohistory.wordpress.com/2013/10/07/chuck-missler-return-o… I have read books by the late Creationist Dr. Clifford Wilson (Crash God the Chariots). The Nephilim-UFO connection is embraced by a number of young earth creationists (myself included).

Consider this: 6 US Presidents claim to have seen UFO’s: Obama, George W. Bush, Reagan, Carter, JFK, Eisenhower.

Consider these sightings:

Major General Vladimir Kovalyonok, Russian Cosmonaut
Date of sighting: May 5, 1981
Location of sighting: Orbiting Earth

Victor Afanasyev, Soviet Cosmonaut
Date of sighting: April 1979
Location of sighting: Earth orbit, enroute to Soviet Solyut 6 Space Station

James McDivitt, NASA Astronaut, Gemini 4
Date of sighting: June 1965
Location of sighting: Orbiting Earth
Buzz Aldrin, NASA Astronaut
Date of sighting: July 18, 1969
Location of sighting: Moon
Gordon Cooper, NASA Astronaut.
Date of sighting: 1957
Location of sighting: Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA

Walter Cronkite. CBS News anchor.
Date of sighting: 1950
Location of sighting: South Pacific

Clyde Tombaugh, Astronomer who discovered Pluto.
Date of sighting: August 20, 1949
Location of sighting: Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

By definition, all UFO’s are are unidentified flying objects. That something is not identified, does not make it unexplainable, supernatural, or extraterrestrial. All it means is that you don’t have all the information to identify it.

Agreed. I would bet that most (if not all) real UFO sightings fall in this category. Also, when you realize just how many military bases are pretty near to the Roswell area, it makes a lot of sense that a bunch of new flying technology could be construed as UFO sightings.

On Halloween night back in the early 90’s when I was in college (BJU), I was driving back to campus and found everyone stopped in the road. They were out of their cars looking up at some lights in the sky. It was weird because there were several of them all moving independently of each other. It was certainly unexplainable and a bit strange. When I got back to the dorm a couple guys that lived in the room next to me were talking about letting off homemade hot air balloons. It was essentially plastic bags lit up and inflated by candles or something like that. It was hilarious to find out the UFOs were actually plastic bags! I figured that was all I would ever hear about it and actually did forget about it until months later.

That next summer, the tv show A Current Affair ran a spot about aliens in Greenville, SC. A lady was outside of her house filming the strange lights in the sky. The camera happened to pan across her house at one point and there appeared to be a silhouette in the window…no one was inside at the time. Her explanation was that an alien from the UFOs was actually inside her house. I was rolling around laughing since I knew the actual story. Her perception of what happened became reality in her own mind. Now you know the rest of the story.
